July 9: Thirsty Thursday at Soundtrack.

We’re bringing you a thirsty Thursday to kickoff your summer with a Valencia Live! afters at Soundtrack in the Mission. Funky techno beats will be bumping the night away as you pre-game your Friday morning with a night you won’t forget. June 11: Bottles & Bites Turns 1 🎉

The first anniversary of Bottles & Bites is July 12th and we’re a domi dayger to celebrate! This has quickly become a staple in the Marina owned and operated by the coolest team who have become part of so many families here in the city. Al and the team are the kindest people looking to bring neighborhood joy through food and community. We had a chance to interview them earlier to hear about the Bottles & Bites origin story and what this place means to them. This event is completely free with live DJ music, free beer samples, sandwiches to order, coffee, drinks, and everything you’d find at a classic NYC bodega.

July 12: Take Pilates with domi

Good news! We’re still accepting on our waitlist for a domi x X·Core Studios reformer pilates class. All Month Long: Stern Grove Festival

This month we’re getting the sweet tunes of Major Lazer (July 5), SF Symphony with Béla Fleck (July 12), Charley Crockett (July 19), and Suki Waterhouse (July 26). From everything I’ve seen, you must get your hands on a ticket if you can. The scenes from the festival are incredible.

July 2: SF MoMA Free First Thursdays

Enjoy a free day at the museum if you’re a San Francisco resident! The MoMA currently has Matisse on exhibition along with galleries of mixed media to ponder.

July 2: Downtown First Thursdays

Did you know that San Francisco has its own hot dog eating contest? Start the month strong with a can't miss show and beats from local artists.

July 4-5: Fillmore Jazz Festival

The Fillmore District is hosting a weekend-long festival celebrating live jazz and community. The Fillmore Jazz Festival Preservation Fund & the Fillmore Merchants Association are hosting this free event with performances from 10 AM - 6 PM on Saturday and Sunday.

All Month Long: Civic Center Soundtrack

Every Tuesday and Thursday from 12 PM to 3 PM, The San Francisco Civic Center is bringing musical performances and food trucks to the Fulton Plaza. Enjoy this free concert series with co-workers on your mid-day break or play hooky for the day. The world is your oyster.

July 4: Fireworks over the Golden Gate Bridge

This is the third time (ever!) that San Francisco has displayed fireworks over the bridge and it’s happening on the 250th birthday of America 🇺🇸. Some good viewing spots if you’re in town are: Crissy Field, marina Green, Baker Beach, Aquatic Park, Pier 39, or by the West Picnic Bluffs (my personal fave).

July 8-14: SF Hash Week

If you partake in 🍃 you will be excited to hear that top cannabis lounges around the city are hosting events to learn and sample the latest innovations in all things hash.

July 11: San Francisco Free Folk Festival

head to Golden Gate Park for a day of live music at the Golden Gate Park Music Concourse. The theme of this year’s festival is “Voice of the People: Folk Music for Justice, Freedom, and Belonging”, and the perfect setting for what I imagine is the closest we have to frolicking in the fields to the sound of music.

July 12: Ferry Fest

This second inaugural festival is being held at the iconic Ferry Building for a day of live music, the Pickwick Vintage Show, art, wine tasting, and community! The fest starts at 12 PM and goes to 6 PM with special offerings for ages 21+ and tons of activities for the whole family to enjoy.

July 15-19: San Francisco Frozen Film Festival

This year is chock full of celebrations. This year is the 20th year of the festival highlighting independent filmmakers for a week of screenings around the city. Fun fact, the reason it’s called “Frozen” Film Festival is not because they love Olaf and Elsa, but a nod to the city’s cold summers.

July 24: Bhangra & Beats Night Market

Experience a cultural blend of Bay Area classics with an Indian-style rave. The Non Stop Bhangra collective will be performing, there will be food, dance lessons, and vendors to spend the night grooving to the sounds of Punjabi beats.

July 25: Cinema on the Square: The Princess Diaries

Union Square is hosting a free, outdoor showing of The Princess Diaries which, fun fact (if you already didn’t know) was partially filmed in our very own Pacific Heights. Bring your friends and picnic at sundown for this SF-style movie night.

July 26: Up Your Alley Festival

Be warned, this is not your typical festival. But if you are interested in the leather community in all its glory, check out their site for more information.

July 31: Sip, Savor, Donate by the Huckleberry Young Professionals Board

The Huckleberry Young Professionals Board is hosting a fundraiser benefiting Huckleberry programs rooted in safety, justice, health, and education at Jackalope. All tips will go directly to supporting underserved Bay Area Youth. Pre-game your Friday night with a reason to benefit your community.

July 31: Fridays on Front Street

Allegedly featuring a Charli XCX look-a-like contest, house beats by Noise Pop, and lots of local vendors to round out this month’s festivities.

We are so excited to partner with X Core Studio to bring you a free, 45-minute pilates class with one of our favorite instructors, Sydney.

X Core has locations all around the Bay Area, offering high intensity pilates and versaclimber group workout classes.

The giveaway will include you and a friend you want to workout with at the studio because we’re all about building community. Mark Twain once said, “the coldest winter I ever spent was summer in San Francisco”. He’s not wrong, but June is the one summer month where somehow the sun seeks revenge on Karl to give us its very best for block party szn. And WOW, does the city love a good block party. This month turns a chapter to partying in the streets, and domi’s hosting a B2B dayger event for the Union Street Festival. If you’ve ever wanted to salsa in the streets and have the best free fun on a workday, you must go to Valencia Live! It’s like being transported out of the country just for a night and it’s awesome 💃🏻

JUNE 12: Chinatown Night Market

From 5-10pm on Grant Ave in San Francisco’s Chinatown, the streets will be bustling with delicious Chinese street food finds, free activities, and local sellers giving the best our vibrant community has to offer.

This one’s for my arts ‘n’ crafts girlies who need inspo for their next project or want to splurge all their money on handmade goodies (I have been victim of both…). West Coast Craft is back at Fort Mason for another packed vendor list of talented artists and creatives selling their masterpieces 🤌

JUNE 14, 21, 28: Stern Grove Festival

Do you like free music? Parks? Free music in THE park? Well I hope you entered the ticket lottery because Stern Grover Festival is back this summer with an incredible lineup of artists. Listen in Golden Gate Park to the sounds of people like Japanese Breakfast and Peter Cat Recording Co this month.

JUNE 20-21: North Beach Festival

Now this may be the largest summer block party in the city. If you can choose just one street festival to go to, choose this one. The live music literally fills the streets with stunning views of Coit tower, typical Washington park shenanigans, and the best controlled chaos you’ll find. Some of my favorites in previous years have been the live rock band on Columbus and the Aperol Spritz cart by the park. It’s the closest thing we have to a “euro summer”.

JUNE 27: Galantis plays Midsommar at the Midway Block Party

My ravers, there’s even a block party this month just for you. The Midway is hosting several block parties this summer, but Galantis’ Midsommar performance will be one to remember. Clapton and Bonnie x Clyde will be opening for this iconic DJ group and there will be food trucks, activations, and several stages to explore.

JUNE 27-28: San Francisco Pride

If you haven’t been to Pride in SF, you HAVE to go. It’s one, free. Two, the best daytime activity to hear great live music, go dancing in the streets, and witness a full city takeover. Pride is all month long, but the city truly shows out for this end-of-the-month celebration. Check out downtown for the parade, dress up for the vibes, and spend the weekend basking in the colorful streets of San Francisco.

June is the month of block parties, I hope to see you all frolicking in the streets and basking in the summer sun before she disappears!

The parrots are singing, the allure of block parties are around the corner, and the pollen is filling the air (and my lungs). Yep, spring has arrived in San Francisco and here’s what you and your friends should do this month:

May 16: Bus Stop Block Party

A Marina-favorite sports bar is throwing a free community event with everything from live music to a petting zoo 🙊 This one’s a no-brainer for your weekend plans.

May 17: Bay to Breakers

I fear if you don’t know this is happening on Sunday, you are about to get really confused if you walk outside. I’m personally excited for the tortilla throwing.

May 18: The Apollo Moon Missions: How We Solved the Impossible

If you like space, or you just watched Project Hail Mary, this could be the event for you. Adult lectures hosted by Big Brain, an awesome lecture series.

May 23-24: Carnaval Festival

If you missed out on Rio, Carnaval is coming to SF! I have a co-worker in the drum line so shoutout him and the AMAZING dancers. 17 blocks in Mission District with DJs, food, and a parade 💃🏻

May 24: SF MoMA Free Community Day

If you love art, the SF MoMA has a new exhibit, Matisse’s Femme au chapeau: A Modern Scandal. They’re having free admission all-day and even featuring drag performance! Double slay.

May 25: Memorial Day Bonfire Night at Ocean Beach

If you’re in the city for the holiday, this is the move. 100%.

May 28: Golden State Valkyries basketball game

I am obsessed with their mascot, and their merch, and everything about the Valkyries brand, go support our team! (Also, Caitlin Clark will be in town for this one)

May 30: House Night @ Casements

Some of you may recognize the name domi from TikTok or Instagram, attended a previous domi collective event, or somehow stumbled upon and completed the domi collective interest form (on the admittedly very low-fi website).

And you may be wondering, “What is domi and how can I get involved?”.

1. In Latin, domi translates to “at home”. For me, domi isn’t a location, but a feeling of belonging and community. It’s how I want everyone to feel when coming to an event, getting involved with domi’s social videos, and actually getting closer to their neighbors. The domi collective is a range of cool, interesting, and beautiful people I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know, so I’m excited to start this ‘zine to allow others to highlight the awesome things happening around the neighborhood.

2. Come to things that seem dope, share this with friends, and be kind to people at domi events. Boom. You’re in domi collective.

This substack exists to give you the early scoop on upcoming domi-hosted things1 and a handful of other curated in-person SF events. This ‘zine will hit your inbox once, maybe twice a month (because I hate a cluttered inbox) for a digest of all things that are hottt for you to attend. Based on the feedback from all of you is how future issues of this ‘zine will be shaped, and if you’re reading this and you have something you want to submit, my DMs are open!

You absolutely do not have to keep reading. But if you are curious on how this all came to be, read on (plus, it’s good for the attention span 😉)!

I love San Francisco and the people here, especially when they’re not talking about work,

doing work,

or talking about doing work.

I wish I could wake up eager to increase shareholder value every day. But that’s not my reason to live. When I reflect on what I’m actually obsessed with, and where majority of my time growing up went, it’s building community. In college, it consumed my life. My friends used to call me the energizer bunny because I would have 0 free time. I was busy planning fundraisers, hosting parties, managing club events, interning, and traveling to cheer at our athletics events (go bruins 🐻).

I’ve never had more fun or felt more fulfilled in my life. If you asked me what my reason to live was then, my “9-5” was definitely it.

I feel personally responsible for trying to get people together to kiki2 and get to the good stuff of actually meeting new people, which often times comes from having fun together. I don’t think we need dating apps, or networking opportunities, to find meaningful relationships. Honestly, I don’t even think most of us like either of the two.

Back in college, I also took up a huge interest studying film and media, so you can imagine where the beginnings of domi’s social presence began. I started the domi TikTok and Instagram account at the end of last year as a way to use social media “for good”. I’m quite conscious of how social media has negatively affected our lives3, and I wanted to create a page that highlights everyday people’s stories to get them connected with others in-person.

And I thought, “there’s no better place to tell a story than in someone’s home”.

Your home tells so much about you as a person.

It holds our memories, our style, our time with friends, and is a free expression of ourselves. The people on domi have all been unique, and I try to film them in the style that best portrays them, yet I continue to notice how many shared qualities people have.

The number one thing I’ve been asked by the people on domi are, “why is it so hard to meet people?”.

I began introducing people from room tours to each other and eventually, my DMs were flooded with people wanting to meet them too! At a point, I figured it was crazy to spend my time coordinating one-on-one meetups, so I started hosting domi collective events. If you can have fun together, a lot of the “hard stuff” when meeting new people goes away.

domi events are simple. Invite your friends and bring people together.

I have tons of exciting ideas about where domi collective can go, but ultimately its future revolves around the people. I’d love to hear any feedback to help this become the best version of itself.
